Before downloading the Visa Form, read the instructions below CAREFULLY


This Consulate General can process visa applications only for the legal residents in its district: Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, Puerto Rico, U.S. and British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Turks & Caicos, Bahamas and the islands of Saba, St. Maarten and St. Eustatius.

No appointment is required at this moment.

Personal appearance and proof of legal status in our jurisdiction is required.

The complete paperwork has to be submitted in person at the moment of your application, nothing can be left pending. It is not allowed to send in advance paperwork by mail or fax; such documents will be disregarded and the Consulate will not be liable for their loss.

The approximate time for issuing a visa may vary.  We recommend applying well in advance on your departure date (at lease 15 days) and not exceeding 90 days earlier.  In case of real urgency, please do not try to contact us, but rather come directly to the Consulate.

All foreign documents MUST be translated into Italian or English and the translations legalized by the competent Consulate.

Please submit a complete set of copies of the presented documents with the original passport and a copy of all the relevant pages.

If you want your passport returned by mail insted of picking it up personally, you must enclose a self-addressed and stamped return USPS Express Mail envelope showing yourself as both shipper and recipient.  We do not accept Fedex, UPS, DHL or any private carriers for the return envelope.

Keep copy of the return envelope or tracking number since the Consulate does not keep records of return shippings.  The Consulate declines any responsibility for damages o losses of documents and/or money returned by mail.

When changes of names have occurred, legal proof of these changes must be provided, in notarized copies (i.e. marriage or divorce certificates, etc.)

When the applicant is a minor, please submit the following certification:
- Authorization to travel signed by both parents, the signatures MUST be notarized by a notary public;
- Birth certificate, notarized copies;

Notarized copies of both parents picture I.D.

When you receive your visa please check it for any mistakes (passport number, date of birth, validity) and, if necessary, return it to the Consulate for corrections.
We will not correct a mistake on the visa, which was not brought to our attention immediately after receiving it. In some cases correcting an error can take up to 2 weeks.

Please, note that visas cannot be changed or extended. If your travel plans changed after the visa issuance, you have to reapply for a new one.


PLEASE NOTE THAT IF YOU INTEND TO TRAVEL TO ITALY FOR STUDY PURPOSES, YOU MUST OBTAIN A VISA EVEN FOR A SHORT STAY.

Visa Fees

- up to to 90 days: $ 86.00
- over 90 days: $ 108.00
No fee for student visa and US family members of US military in mission.
Cashier's check or money order, payable to Consulate General of Italy
Personal checks are NOT accepted.

Mission Visas for spouse or children of US Military personnel
1. application form;
2. cover letter by any branch (in the Continental U.S.) of the Department of Defense indicating  nature of trip, port of entry in Italy,  date of entry and  intended duration of stay;
3. one passport size photograph;
4. your original passport, valid for at least 3 months after your travel dates;
5. your Green Card (if you are not a U.S. citizen);
6. your Certificate of Domicile and/or Driver's License and/or State I.D. (originals or photocopies);
7. Military I.D.;
8. copy or marriage certificate (if the applicant is the spouse) or copy of the birth certificate (if the applicant is the child);
9. copy of  military orders;
10. When the applicant is a minor, please present the following certification:
- Authorization to travel signed by both parents, the signatures MUST be notarized by a notary public; - Birth certificate, notarized copies; - Notarized copies of both parents' picture I.D.
